About me
"3D Teapot" is the web development blog and computer graphics portfolio of me, Alex Cartwright. Originally created as place to showcase my 3D digital stills, it is now also used as a place to jot down my random thoughts, opinions and guides mostly to do with web development, server administration, and the development of my main project, TangoCMS.
From the West Midlands (UK), my main interests not only include web development and computer graphics, but as a qualified pilot I can often be found flying around the skies above the border of England and Wales!
Tea is by far superior to Coffee, with my brew mug always somehow being twice as large as everyone else's ... hum. The name "3D Teapot" comes from two sources, firstly my love for good ol' tea, and secondly the Utah Teapot; which is essentially the "hello world" of 3D computer graphics and one of the first complex 3D models created (back in 1975). So for me, this name is perfect and represents a lot of what I do.
As a professional web developer, I have taught my self multiple scripting languages that have allowed me to develop the software I have, and to administer the servers I currently look after. Being a Zend Certified Engineer my main expertees are with PHP and creating web applications, such as the open source PHP content management system, TangoCMS.
Using Debian, I have a lot of experience in setting up and administrating several servers for various purposes and requirements. Apache and Lighttpd are my HTTP servers of choice, a long with Postfix & Dovecot for email, and MySQL or PostgreSQL for databases.
Bash scripts have allowed me to automate a lot of processes such as configuring the web server for a new domain name and adding & deleting email accounts. So others can benefit from these I have actually released "ozsvrutils" under the BSD license, this is a small collection of Bash scripts with great flexibility.
